This project investigates the 3 minute thesis genre as an example of academic discourse aimed at non-specialist audiences. In collaboration with Dr Yanhua Liu (Language Centre, University of Leeds), and Dr Namala Tilakaratna (American University of Sharjah, UAE), we are investigating the strategies to engage and persuade audiences, and to communicate technicality to non-experts, through verbal, non-verbal and multimodal means.
