The Nuffield Foundation funded DART project provided ‘proof of concept’ for a computer assisted dynamic decoding assessment (DDA) which measures a learners ability to connect sounds with symbols, a key foundation skill for reading success. Through feedback from stakeholders on our advisory board, we believe that if the DDA was developed into an app it could be suitable for practical application. In the CREATE project, we aim to investigate this further through participatory research involving educators and children (aged 4-6 years) in UK primary schools.
