Teaching assistant delivered 1:1 reading intervention for children in Key Stage 2 of primary education
Dr Paula Clarke - School of Education, University of Leeds
This presentation will provide an overview of the REACH Primary project which was a randomised controlled efficacy trial funded by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). It will cover the development and implementation of the training programme and intervention materials as well as the evaluation processes and findings. The project was independently evaluated by Sheffield Hallam University and the full report is available via the EEF webpage https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/projects-and-evaluation/projects/reach-primary.
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted this project, there was a large proportion of attrition, meaning that the findings are not secure and should be interpreted with caution. Nevertheless, a great deal was learned in the process of conducting this research. This presentation will highlight key messages from the process evaluation (conducted with case study schools prior to the pandemic) and reflect on our attempts to pivot from face-to-face to online reading assessments in the post intervention phase of the trial.
Registration is required (and free) via this form. Please register by midnight the night before the talk. You will receive a Zoom link to the talk about an hour before the event begins.
