Professor Janet Watson’s project Yemen in Conflict included in Liverpool Arab Arts Festival

Date

Janet Watson and James Dickins were involved in co-organising a set of poetry workshops held with members of the Yemeni community in Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and Sheffield. The team selected known Yemeni poets from the diasporic communities to produce poems based on the workshops. Their poems were then included in poemfilms produced by the filmmaker, and translated either into English (where the original was in Arabic) or into Arabic. One of the poems, by Amina Atiq, was translated by one of the team's Mehri collaborators into the endangered Semitic language, Mehri.
