Northern Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Roundtable hosted at Leeds
Clare Wright (Linguistics) and Tom Hammond (Education) hosted a very successful Northern Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Roundtable at the University of Leeds last September.
The event was attended by colleagues working on various aspects of second language research from Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, York and Lancaster. The roundtable facilitated exciting discussions about current issues and future directions of the field, as well as giving early-career colleagues the chance to present their work and receive feedback. The roundtable plays a big part in fostering collaborations between the northern universities, and the next meeting will be in Lancaster (2026). Although some people had to leave after lunch, we managed to get a picture of those still left by the end of the day!
Thank you to the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies (LCS), the Centre for Language and Education Research (CLER), and to Language@Leeds for providing funding for the event.
