Dr Cat Davies awarded an ESRC New Investigator Grant

Dr Davies's successful research grant award will fund the project “Children's experience, understanding, and use of adjectives across the socioeconomic spectrum”.

Congratulations to Dr Cat Davies who has been awarded a grant of £300,000 from the Economic and Social Research Council to support a three-year project on language and socioeconomic disadvantage. The project aims to reveal how children’s socioeconomic background might affect their descriptive language abilities. With her project team, Cat will use eyetracking experiments, corpus analyses, and a randomised controlled trial to investigate children's psycholinguistic processing within its social context. The research will hopefully lead to recommendations for families and practitioners working with children facing challenges with adjectives and other forms of descriptive language.
