British Council Arabic Review

Date

A team of researchers from Language at Leeds (Samar Al-Afendi, James Dickins, Hanem El-Farahaty, Ahmed Elgindy, Sameh Hanna, Ruba Khamam, Mustapha Lahlali, Rasha Soliman, Melissa Towler) will collaborate with colleagues from Edinburgh and Goldsmiths, University of London (Sawsan Haffar-Saffaf, Luma Hameed, Emma Snowden) on a British Council-funded review of Arabic teaching and accreditation in Britain. The research will cover how Arabic is being taught in UK schools today, how teaching and learning can be improved in view of the many different methodologies being employed, current accreditation systems for Arabic, and the potential for developing TAFL (Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language) as a bona fide branch of contemporary language pedagogy.
