Born in Bradford New Wave

This project is conducted within the context of the Born in Bradford cohort study. This group is particularly interesting for linguistic study due to both the high numbers of bi/multilinguals in the community and the notably low socio-economic status within the city as a whole. However, despite the interesting make-up of this group, and the substantial effects these two variables have been shown to have on language development, there has yet to be any research conducted looking at the language profile of this cohort. The current project investigates receptive and expressive language abilities and focusses on lexical-pragmatics and the extent to which a child’s exposure to more than one language (bi/multilingualism) can affect their language development and academic attainment.
