Professor David Crystal

Date
Date
Monday 9 March 2015, 17:15 - 18:30

We are delighted to announce that Professor David Crystal will give a talk on Monday 9th March (5.15-6.30pm) entitled:

'Language BLANK Literature: from Conjunction to Preposition.'
The study of language and the study of literature have long been separated and are often treated as if they were antagonistic domains, both in mother-tongue and in foreign-language teaching. This talk argues for the integration of the two domains, by focusing on the notion of linguistic creativity which underlies both, and providing performance illustrations from several literary genres.

The talk will take place in Michael Sadler Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre (LG.X04) and will start promptly at 5.15 pm. Professor Crystal will speak for an hour, with 15 minutes for questions. The lecture theatre will be open from 5.00 to allow people to arrive and take their seats. The talk will be followed by a drinks reception held in the School of English foyer. The Michael Sadler building can be found on the campus map (http://www.leeds.ac.uk/site/custom_scripts/campus_map.php) but is easy to find adjacent to the Parkinson building and opposite the security barrier entrance to the University.

The talk will be of interest to undergraduates, postgraduates, and staff. All are welcome.
